Privacy Policy

In short: your videos, your music and your projects never leave your computer. BeatCut has no targeted advertising, no audience measurement and no trackers. We only process what is strictly necessary to sell and verify licenses.

What stays on your computer

Editing, previewing and exporting happen entirely locally. Your clips, music, images, projects and settings are never sent anywhere.

Data processed

Purchase. Lemon Squeezy, our official reseller, processes order and payment data (name, email, country, payment method) in accordance with its own privacy policy. We receive the email, the name, the plan purchased and the license key. Legal basis: performance of the contract; accounting obligations.

License. During activation and checks (at most every 6 hours while the software is open), BeatCut sends the license server: the key, a fingerprint of the computer (calculated from the Windows or Mac hardware identifier, non-reversible) and the computer's name (to help you recognize your devices). The server also records the dates of activation and of the last check. Legal basis: performance of the contract; legitimate interest (fraud prevention).

Patreon. If you get your key by signing in with Patreon, we receive your Patreon ID, your name, your email and your membership tier for the BeatCut campaign, then check every day that your membership is active. We do not receive your payment methods or your other memberships. Legal basis: performance of the contract.

Updates. The software asks the server whether a new version exists. No personal data is sent other than the IP address, which is required for any connection.

Lyrics. Only when you ask for it, the title and artist of the track are sent to LRCLIB (lrclib.net), a free database of synced lyrics.

Built-in voices (hypno sessions). When you download a voice, BeatCut fetches it from Hugging Face (huggingface.co), which sees your IP address, as with any download. The script is then read on your computer: the text is not sent.

ElevenLabs and Fish Audio. Only if you choose one of them and save your own API key for it. The text of each sentence of the script is then sent to them to be read, along with your key. They process it in accordance with their own privacy policy, as part of your account with them: we receive neither the text nor the audio. Your key is encrypted by your operating system and stays on your computer.

Website. This website sets no cookies and uses no audience measurement tools. The host keeps technical logs (IP address, page requested) for security purposes.

Recipients and transfers

Processors: Cloudflare (hosting of the license server and downloads), Lemon Squeezy (payment) and Patreon (Patreon memberships). These companies are based in the United States; transfers are governed by the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and/or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. No data is sold or used for advertising purposes.

Retention periods

License data: for the duration of the license, then 3 years for support and fraud prevention. Accounting records: 10 years (legal obligation, kept by Lemon Squeezy and the publisher). Technical logs: a few days.

Your rights

You can request access to, rectification, erasure or portability of your data, object to processing or request its restriction, by writing to support@beatcut.fr. You can also file a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (cnil.fr).
